Award-winning social enterprise, Scarf, has launched a new campaign to promote an environment of acceptance and inclusivity for staff, customers and visitors.

The organisation, based in Aberdeen, has unveiled new rainbow lanyards, which staff have the option to wear instead of their traditional company lanyard, to show support for the LGBT+ community.

Scarf, has been named in the Sunday Times Top 100 Not-for-profit Companies to Work For list four of the past five years, thanks in part to its workplace culture rooted in its core values – Acting with integrity, treating all with respect, pursuing excellence and leading.

Thane Lawrie, Chief Executive of Scarf, said: “We take great pride in our award-winning workplace culture and we recognise the rights of staff, customers and visitors to live and work in an environment free of prejudice and discrimination.

“We want everyone who walks through our door to feel they are in a safe space regardless of their ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, financial situation, religion etc. and that everyone feels free to be themselves. I hope that seeing our staff wearing these lanyards will highlight Scarf as a place free of discrimination”

Rainbow lanyards have been introduced by a number of high-profile organisations across a range of sectors including; the NHS, police and universities as well as FTSE 100 businesses in a bid to promote inclusivity in the workplace.

In addition to the lanyards, Scarf has been in touch with the Equality Network with regards to reviewing its website, internal and outwards-facing marketing materials, and social media channels to ensure the use of inclusive language.

Anyone is welcome to purchase a Scarf rainbow lanyard for a donation of £2 to the Equality Network by visiting its office at 1 Cotton Street, Aberdeen or by emailing comms@scarf.org.uk.

Scarf was founded in 1985 as an Urban Aid project with the aim of tackling fuel poverty in particular areas of Aberdeen City and over the past 34 years, it has grown to a team of almost 65 staff across two offices in Aberdeen and Dundee.

Scarf now delivers projects on behalf of the Scottish Government, local authorities and the Energy Saving Trust as well as spawning its own commercial arm offering simple and hassle-free energy brokering services for businesses and delivering accredited training courses in Energy Awareness and personal and leadership development programmes from The Pacific Institute.
