Scarf has achieved People & Planet First Verification, joining a global movement of organisations independently recognised for putting purpose before profit.

The verification is awarded to organisations that prioritise social and environmental impact over profit maximisation, operate sustainably, reinvest the majority of any surplus into their mission, and are structured to protect that purpose for the long term.

For Scarf, it reflects an approach the organisation has championed for more than 40 years, supporting households to stay warm, reduce energy costs and improve the energy efficiency of their homes. In the last year alone, the charity and social enterprise supported more than 8,300 households through its Home Energy Advice Team, generating almost £975,000 in financial benefits for customers. It also helped unlock more than £12 million of investment in home energy improvements through ECO and GBIS, helping households reduce both energy bills and carbon emissions.

The verification follows Scarf recently entering its second year as a Good Business Charter accredited organisation, further reinforcing its commitment to responsible, ethical business practices. Together, the two independent accreditations recognise not only the impact Scarf delivers, but the values and principles that guide how it delivers it.

Lawrence Johnston, Co-CEO at Scarf, said:

People & Planet First Verification is external recognition of why Scarf exists and how we choose to operate. Everything we do is driven by our mission to tackle fuel poverty and make homes warmer, healthier and more energy efficient. Any surplus we generate goes straight back into that mission, so we can support more households and communities across Scotland. We’re proud to join a global community of organisations proving that success is measured by the difference you make, not just the profit you turn.

As demand for support continues to grow, with households facing ongoing energy affordability challenges and Scotland working towards its net zero ambitions, People & Planet First Verification strengthens Scarf’s position as a trusted partner for local authorities, funders and communities working together to tackle fuel poverty and accelerate that transition.
