The money isn’t paid to you directly; it’s a one-off discount applied to your electricity bill, sometime between September and March.
You may be able to get the discount on your gas bill instead if your supplier provides you with both gas and electricity.
How you qualify for (and apply for) the scheme depends on your income, benefits received, and which energy supplier you’re with.
You can still qualify for the discount if you use a prepaid electricity meter, and the discount doesn’t affect Cold Weather or Winter Fuel Payments.
